Who can leave?

Italian or foreigner medical students, attending the fifth or sixth year of Medicine course or graduated ones, can take part to Wolisso Project. Leaving students should have good adaptation capability and a deep sensitivity allowing them to approach adequately a world so different from western one. In fact Ethiopia is a country full of life, but rich of contradictions and complex aspects: social and economical conditions place Ethiopia to the bottom of UN and WHO evaluations concerning quality of life and poverty. Leaving students must also speak good English.

Why leaving?

Apprenticeships goal is to enable future physicians to see what Medicine is in a developing country. We firmly believe that this will deeply contribute to the cultural and professional training of the involved students, concerning topical questions as Global Health is.

Students follow physicians in their duties, remaining under their supervision for any activities. Medical and Nursing staff speak English and this allows students a good integration in Hospital activity.

When is it possible to leave?

Most suitable periods belong to dry season (September-May). Dates of leaving are arranged with Dr Manenti, Medical Director of St. Luke Hospital, and published on this website. Periods of training last 3-4 weeks and they are fixed time to time. No more than four students for each period are allowed to take part to the Project.
